Affiliate Disclosure
Transparency matters to us. This page explains how affiliate relationships work on this site, which programs we participate in, how commissions are earned, and — most importantly — how those relationships affect (and don’t affect) the content you read here. We believe you deserve to know exactly how this site keeps the lights on.
“Some links on AquariumExtravaganza.com are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. This never influences what we recommend. We only link to products we genuinely believe in.”
What Is an Affiliate Link?
An affiliate link is a specially tracked URL that tells a retailer a visitor arrived from our website. When you click one and complete a qualifying purchase, we receive a small percentage of the sale as a referral commission. The price you pay is identical whether or not you use our link — you never pay more because of an affiliate link.
Example: You read our review of a canister filter, click through to Amazon, and buy it for $89. Amazon pays us a commission — typically 3–8%. You still paid $89. The commission comes out of Amazon’s margin, not your pocket.
Amazon Associates Program
AquariumExtravaganza.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for websites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
FTC Required Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, AquariumExtravaganza.com earns from qualifying purchases. This statement is required by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and applies to all Amazon links on this site regardless of whether the disclosure is repeated on each individual page.
A commission is only earned when a qualifying purchase is completed within Amazon’s applicable cookie window (typically 24 hours). We have no access to your Amazon account, order history, or personal data.
Other Affiliate Programs We Participate In
In addition to Amazon, we participate in select affiliate programs relevant to the aquarium hobby:
| Program / Retailer | Category | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Associates | Filters, lighting, tanks, fish food, accessories | Active |
| Chewy Affiliate Program | Fish food, live plants, aquarium supplies | Active |
| PetSmart Affiliate | Tanks, décor, medications, equipment | Active |
| LiveAquaria | Live fish, coral, invertebrates | Active |
| Bulk Reef Supply | Saltwater and reef equipment | Active |
This list is updated whenever we add or end a partnership. If we begin a relationship that meaningfully affects our content, this page is updated within 30 days.
How Affiliate Relationships Affect Our Content
No brand or retailer has ever paid us to write a positive review. Cash-for-coverage does not happen here.
A product with a higher affiliate commission does not rank higher in our guides. Rankings are based purely on performance and value.
If the best product in a category has no affiliate program, we recommend it anyway. Your trust matters more than our revenue.
If a product disappoints, we say so — even if we have an active affiliate relationship with that retailer.
If a manufacturer sends us a product to review, we say so clearly at the top of the article. A free product does not buy a positive review.
Our ratings reflect genuine assessments. A 6/10 is a 6/10. We do not round up to protect a commercial relationship.
Our editorial rule: We only place an affiliate link on a product we would recommend to a fellow fish keeper who asked for our honest opinion. If we wouldn’t say “buy this” to someone we care about, we don’t link to it.
Sponsored Content & Brand Partnerships
Occasionally we may publish sponsored articles or branded content. Any such content will be clearly labelled at the top of the article with one of the following:
- Sponsored — the brand paid for the placement of this content.
- Advertorial — produced in partnership with a brand, reflecting their input alongside our editorial voice.
- Gifted / Review Unit — the product was provided free of charge for review purposes.
- In Partnership With — content was produced with brand support, but editorial control stayed with us.
If you don’t see one of these labels, the content is fully independent. We decline sponsored content requests that require us to guarantee a positive outcome.
Price Accuracy & Product Availability
Prices shown on AquariumExtravaganza.com are for reference only and may not reflect current retailer pricing. Always verify the current price on the retailer’s website before purchasing. If you find a broken or outdated link, please let us know at info@aquariumextravaganza.com.
FTC Compliance & Legal Disclosure
AquariumExtravaganza.com complies fully with the FTC’s Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255):
- This disclosure page is accessible from every page of the website via our footer.
- Articles with significant affiliate links include an inline disclosure near the top.
- Sponsored or gifted content is labelled as described in Section 05.
- Social media posts containing affiliate links are disclosed with #ad or equivalent labels.
International readers: We apply the same disclosure standards globally — in compliance with UK ASA/CAP codes, EU consumer protection directives, and applicable local laws.
How Affiliate Revenue Supports This Site
Aquarium Extravaganza is entirely self-funded. Affiliate commissions pay for web hosting, software, the equipment we buy to test, and the time spent researching, writing, and maintaining hundreds of care guides and product reviews. Without affiliate revenue, this site could not exist in its current form.
How you can support us for free: If you find our content useful and plan to buy something we’ve recommended, using our affiliate link costs you nothing and helps us keep going. You are never under any obligation to use our links.
Questions About Our Affiliate Relationships?
If you have questions about our partnerships or editorial policies, we’re happy to answer them. Transparency is how we operate.
